Is stalling in a stick shift car damaging to the car? If yes, how much damage?

Heell yeaah! asked:

I’m learning to drive a stick shift right now and I’ve stalled the car more than 20 times and I’m wondering how much damage I’m doing to the car, the engine and the clutch.

well, if you’re lurching forward excessively, that wears the front end, brakes, etc. When in doubt, push in clutch. Oh… the clutch. That is where the most wear n’ tear occurs when learning. Stalling is never good for all ignition parts, including starter. If all else fails, push in the clutch. Don’t panic, watch traffic, lights, signs, pedestrians, and if in doubt, PUSH IN CLUTCH!!!

it puts extra strain on the engine and gearbox mounts, the driveshaft(s), the clutch and tyres. everything is damaging to a car. if you drive it, you have to service and replace parts. if you don’t drive it for a while it needs more servicing than normal as seals etc dry up. it’s all downhill(financially) from the day they are made.
