Im thinking about learning to drive? I have a few questions?

marty m asked:

1. Do I need to have lessons before I take a theory test?

2. ‘IF’ I was to fail my Theory Test, How soon after I fail it can I take it again?

3. I have a disability (ceribral Palsy - which afffects my legs) So I will need an adaped car. How do I go about this prior to my lessons? Then when I take my test, do I go out in the same car?

4. Is there any driving schools I can attent where I can learn in a real short sace of time?

5. Ive never acually seen a specially adaped car before? Where can I find pics?

Thanks
PS,

    In USA,

    1) No
    2) 24 hours (USA depending on state laws)
    3) Are you going to be owning, or do you already own, a car that is customized for you? and Yes, I would think so.
    4) unknown, I hope so
    5) Google them is the best I can suggest on this one.

    Good Luck!

    UK:

    1. No
    2. There are no limits
    3. You can find instructors who have adapted cars (google it) often with disabilities themselves. You take your test in the same car.
    4. There are “intensive” courses i.e. learn to drive in a week, not sure about 24 hours though! (again, google!)
    5. Yes, google images is probably best.

    Hi Marty

Why not Google the Motability Department under Gov.Org.
They will give you all the pointers and direction you need to get you Mobile.
Tells you all sorts of things inc the Law etc

The driving school I used in the US also specialized in customizing cars for drivers with a handicap, as well as teaching people with all kinds of disabilites. I would call around to driving school and see whats out there. Good luck on your test!
