First of all, you don’t “drive” a motorcycle, you ride it. On a scale of 1-10 it’s impossible to name because each bike size, category, and style are different, just like the difference of driving a car, 10 wheeler truck, or an 18 wheeler. Being a fast learner usually means you’re either going to die or get seriously injured on a motorcycle, after 43 years riding I still learn something every few days. Please go to a rider training course (you can do that in most states at 17) and take the course, they furnish the small mc for learning, then for your first bike go out and get the fastest crotch rocket known, like so many others do. OR you can take an old scarred up, limping rider’s advice and get something like a Honda VLX 600 cruiser, around a 500cc sport bike, or sometnig like a 450-650 dual sport. And always remember, cage drivers NEVER SEE A MOTORCYCLE.

If you have ever learned to ride a regular bicycle then it is fairly easy. Experience with driving stick helps, since you are already used to the concept of clutching and gear-shifting. The controls are different than in a car, you just have to get used to using your hands instead of your feet for clutching, braking, throttle control. I learned in under 3 minutes the first time on was ever on a motorcycle. My instructor was like these are the controls, then he started it and I was on my way, a short distance later 1/4 mile or so, I had the basics down and was ready to go. It did take a few more trips up and down the block to get comfortable.
Level of difficulty maybe a 2.

Difficulty depends on your level of healthy respect for what you are doing. If you have enough of it, it will take a day or two to get it down right. I guess what Im saying is dont act like most of us do at 17 or you may get hurt. Take your time and take it slow. Its alot smarter to do that and be able to enjoy the bike and life. I agree with peanuts too, stay away from the sportbikes for awhile and learn to ride on a cruiser. Most of those midsize cruisers have more than enough power to get you in trouble quick, just alot more stable.
